Buying The Little Red Pickle (LRP)

The Saga of our Daihatsu YRV 2001 Turbo 1.3

On Friday, August 22nd 2014 Vego and I bought a 2001 Daihatsu YRV TURBO 1.3l for what we hoped was a good deal.

The Listing

The seller was from another University Professor here in Hong Kong and here's the listing for the car that he posted in a local Bulletin Board called AsiaExpat:

He was kind enough to provide some pictures with the listing.  Here they are:

The Good

  1. The car exterior is very good for a vehicle of this age, no rust no dents
  2. The car interior is almost pristine in terms of condition, and smells OK
  3. The car runs well and does not seem to have major mechanical issues
  4. The car has just had its motor and transmission oil changed
  5. The car has just been licensed, with over 6 month remaining
  6. The car has just been inspected, and passed, with over 6 months remaining
  7. The car now has a new battery, which seems to be a problem with the YRV family
  8. Vego likes the car and feels confident that she can drive it without any problems
  9. The car has a new stereo

The Bad

  1. One of the air flow control knobs is broken
  2. The ride is very, very hard and a little noisy
  3. The air conditioning is not working, blows hot air
  4. There *may* be a door seal problem on the left passenger side
  5. There is a little squeaking sound in the cabin coming from somewhere in the rear
